The Paradise Backyard Ultra is a classic backyard format hosted in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Runners complete a 6.706-kilometre loop, known as a yard, every hour on the hour. Finish with time to spare and it is yours to eat, rest, change gear and prepare. When the next hour begins, everyone still in the race starts again.
The field gets smaller, the hours get longer and the event continues until a yard has only one finisher.

The course
Runnable early.
A mental battle later.
The low-elevation loop uses groomed trail through Paradise Park, along the Trailway and around Octagon Pond. The start and finish sit beside the athlete area, giving crews easy access between yards while runners remain fully self-sufficient on course.

The essential rules
The bell does
not wait.
- 01
Every runner starts each yard together, exactly on the hour.
- 02
Each 6.706 km yard must be completed within 60 minutes.
- 03
No late starts. If you are not in the corral when the next yard begins, your race is over.
- 04
Outside assistance is not permitted on the course. Crew support is limited to the athlete area.
- 05
The winner is the only runner to complete the final yard. If no runner is the sole finisher of a yard, there is no winner.
